An immature male sperm whale beached in Glace Bay this week. He wasn't fully grown yet, which makes it all the more distressing for me.
Wash-ups are common on the island, but I suspect this whale died of impact with a ship (as there are propellor cuts on the dorsal fin and a slump in the vertebrae).
I went to over to give my respects to a life lost, and was aggrevated to see parents letting their children crawl all over the body. A magnificent creature...reduced to a tourism attraction.
Yes, I am fascinated by death. These pictures are being posted to show you an animal that died in its prime, and due to causes that can be prevented. Most people will never see these beautiful animals, I spent an hour with this animal, knowing full well that I may never see one alive.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Please FULL VIEW all these amazing pieces of ART. Visit the artists pages and give them a :+fav and your support. Thank you for taking the time........
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
